Last night was the opening of “The Big One” – The Greenw0od-Phinney Art Up Art Walk.  And while I only had time to visit a small handful of the open businesses (the Art Walk continues today from 12pm to 5pm), I snapped a few great shots the awesome atmosphere!

It’s not just paintings you’ll see on the art walk, its performance art, too.  Crowds were stopping outside of The Greenwood Collective to listen to a little jazz saxophone:

Inside, all the participating studios were open with different themes, a DJ spinning music, and places to drop off canned food for the Greenwood Food Bank.  The art was beautiful!

Another huge crowd was gathered outside of the soon-to-be-open The Yard Cafe.  It took me awhile to realize what was going on, but Firelight Forge had set up a live forge and was creating pieces in front of the crowd.  Turns out, they also created the fence that surrounds The Yard’s outdoor seating area.

As usual, Tasty was completely packed and buzzing with excitement.  It may have been the free champagne – or perhaps owner Sheri Hauser’s new ‘do to match their current exhibit, “Take Flight.”

If you’ve never done the Art Walk before, this is the one to go to – it’s an easy walk down Greenwood Avenue, and businesses displaying works are very clearly marked.  There are lots of food and drink specials, live music performances, and other fun aspects to the art walk, so head over there today before it’s gone!

Greenwood-Phinney Art Walk: The BIG One

How are we already 5 months into 2011?  It’s time already for The BIG One – the official Art Up, Chow Down Art Walk in Greenwood-Phinney.  It’s next Friday, May 13th from 6pm to 9pm and Saturday, May 14th from 12pm to 5pm.

Almost 150 artists will be featuring their works at over 70 venues along Greenwood Avenue.  You can view the full schedule of participating businesses here.  Something interesting I noticed: One of the participating businesses is The Yard, the new soon-to-be-open cousin of The Dray.

Some participating restaurants will be offering food specials, and there will be music and entertainment at various stops along the walk, which spans from 58th to 90th.

There will be a special exhibit at the Phinney Center Gallery for Juror’s “Top Picks,” which are pieces submitted to the jury panel and chosen to be the best of the best.  The Phinney Center Gallery is at 6532 Phinney Ave N.

In the almost-words of Barney Stinson, “Art Up!”
